So I'm repairing or replacing a lot of cooked laptops at the mo. Thought it might be nice to let you know how to avoid expensive repairs to these things in the first place!
- Spend as much as you can afford on a decent one in the first place. My favourite brand is Asus, because I don't have to fix as many of them, despite selling more of those than anything else.
- Ideally, spend £30 on a decent laptop cooling tray. It'll save you a lot of money long term.
- Use it on a table or a dinner tray if nothing else. Resting it on the carpet, sofa, or worst of all, duvet, will reduce the lifespan of the machine by a significant amount.
- If you don't tend to use the laptop on battery alone all that much, then look after it or you'll lose it!
As a minimum, run the laptop completely out of batteries once a month then charge it fully again.
If you'd like to save even more cash, then allow the battery to discharge to about 40%, then remove it from the laptop and store it in a cool, dry place. This is for all you lot who just use your laptop like a desktop computer!
Right, breakfast time.
Pete
